This morning I went to the dump and saw a lawnmower there and I asked the guy who ran the dump if I could have it and he said "Knock yourself out." so I took it home cleaned it took apart the carb and fixed it, fixed the recoil/pullstart took off the kill switch and engine cover, and cleaned the gas tank. Then I threw some oil and gas in it and it ran great. Here are some pics and an extra one of Bandit my dog.

I'm just glad you weren't going to say "I pulled on the rope to start it, the rope broke and I knocked myself out.

I was actually surprised that didn't happen.

Your dog needs some gold coloring/pin striping.

My dad did this for years. Only difference was that most of what my dad brought home was bad gas or low to no oil.

Top them off, and a good majority started first pull.

Your/any lawn mower is crap unless it starts first pull.

Good job. I fixed a ryobi weed eater for $7 today that was about to be trashed. New primer bulb and fuel lines was all she needed.

craigslist it for $75 and take $50. You might have a new weekend hobby, people hate fixing their lawnmower and they're hard to dispose of. Looks almost as good as new.

Absolutely. Since it's a mulcher, you wont even have to rake the yard afterwards, just mow and be done. Get lucky long enough, and like us, you'll find a good/working riding mower. We've gotten two from the local dumps. The first one was okay, but I think the differential failed, and no parts were available. Our newer one has been going strong for now 6 years I think. We got it just before I started driving, because I remember my dad making me practice parallel parking with it.

Our property isn't exactly large enough to necessitate one, but it sure makes the neighbors jealous. We painted it pink for extra effect.

It was put on log duty after Sandy. The Mini under the tarp was a casualty. Damn tree.

Poulan is sold at Walmart . :-\

They are part of Husqvarna and are basically the same as the craftsman stuff.

I've got a Poulan saw that I just can't get to run right.

the newest stuff, yes. Older equipment runs really well. Id double check your oil and gas. Shit gas is really apparent in those engines.

It's had a bunch of different gas run through it and the carb cleaned. No matter how I adjust the carb it is hard to start and doesn't like to idle but I've cut down a cut up dozens of trees with it. It really isn't a big deal though as it is about to become my backup saw.

sounds like crap gas may have done in your diaphragm. Time to tear apart the carb because its probably all shriveled up...the ethanol content in gas today makes it happen really quickly.

also check spark. If ot really never improves, try without the air cleaner, and finally tear the entire motor apart to check if theres scoring in the cylinder wall.

The diaphragm looks fine to me. I'll have to try without the air cleaner. I have a leaf blower that only runs with the air cleaner off.

if that's the case, it's time to find out why the airflow is so restricted, or if the carb needs to be re-tuned. While not all do, a lot of the lawn mower engines I've seen have had ways to tune the carb. Expecting something like a lawn mower to come out of the box with a proper tune is a silly thought...especially if it's coming from walmart.
